Matías Abergo
Matías Abergo is President and Co-founder of Arboreal, the largest Mass Timber facility in South America and the only one in Uruguay. With more than 16 years of experience in the construction industry, he is recognized as one of the region’s leading voices in the promotion of timber-based structural systems.
Driven by a strong commitment to decarbonizing the construction industry, Matías co-founded Arboreal to offer structural solutions based on renewable materials that capture and store carbon. His vision was to build a fully integrated operation combining structural engineering, BIM modeling, CLT and GLT production, and advanced CNC technology—supported by international certifications that ensure quality and traceability throughout the process.
As part of a strategic plan led by Matías and the founding team, Arboreal first acquired a pine sawmill located near forest plantations. The decision to place both the sawmill and the Mass Timber industrial facility on the same site was key to maximizing logistics efficiency and ensuring consistent access to raw material.
Today, Arboreal exports over 5,000 containers of pine products annually to more than 30 countries and contributes to architectural projects ranging from single-family homes to mid- and high-rise buildings. Through his leadership, Matías continues to drive the global expansion of Mass Timber as a scalable and sustainable alternative for the building industry.
