Building Smarter with Wood: Sustainable Solutions to Resilient Communities and Housing

Many countries are experiencing unprecedented housing crises, while others are facing a shrinking and aging population. The need to build better and faster and to have sustainable and resilient building solutions connects the two, is the need to build better and faster and to have sustainable and resilient building solutions. 

The 2025 Woodrise Congress will showcase next-generation solutions using wood and mass timber across different countries. Emerging and innovative public policies, technical advances, market-relevant and low carbon solutions will be explored through business leaders, construction professionals and researchers.

The team is working on an inspiring and informative program focused on the future of wood construction and its vital role in creating sustainable and resilient communities. Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect.

Plenary Session 1: Better Buildings for Communities - Policies & Incentives

The housing crisis in some countries is calling on governments to find solutions to build smarterfaster, and better, and climate change is calling for all necessary measures to promote sustainable and resilient cities.  
This session addresses these challenges and presents policies involving wood to create the communities of tomorrow. 

Plenary 1 Part 1 – Local Leadership Shaping the Future of Urban Housing Local governments play a pivotal role in building resilient communities. Hear from cities implementing new policies, regulations and processes that leverage mass timber and wood-hybrid construction.

Plenary 1 Part 2 – Regional Jurisdictions Building Taller with Wood
Countries worldwide are updating their building codes to address housing needs. Hear from jurisdictions whose codes incorporate building taller and faster with mass timber.

Plenary Session 2: Building Smarter with Wood - The Role of Business Leaders

It is essential that business leaders come up with innovative and sustainable solutions to build faster and better to ensure that our cities are better adapted to climate changes and that livable, affordable housing is accessible for the next generations. 
This plenary highlights the roles and responsibilities of business leaders and investors in enabling sustainable solutions to build resilient cities and affordable housing faster. 

Plenary 2 Part 1 – Building a 21st Century Mass Timber Facility
Mass timber specialists are shaping the future of construction through strategic investments. Industry leaders will share insights on establishing or upgrading highly automated, large-scale manufacturing facilities to support prefabrication processes and meet increasing demand.

Developing Cities of the Future
Real estate developers play a key role in helping address the housing crisis. Hear from industry leaders embracing innovative opportunities and tackling economic, environmental and workforce challenges with mass timber. 

Plenary Session 3: Innovative Solutions and Paths to Success - Construction Innovations

The construction industry is constantly evolving. The evolution of mass timber is adding new wood solutions to those already available such as wood-frame construction.  

This session explores real-world examples of projects, techniques and technologies with construction professionals using mass timber and other wood-based building systems around the world to build better, faster and cheaper using wood materials. 

Plenary 3 Part 1 Description – Shaping the Skyline with Mass Timber
Around the world, architects are embracing prefabricated solutions and innovative technology to improve buildings. Leading professionals will share their insights on creating resilient, sustainable and affordable solutions.

Plenary 3 Part 2 Description – Manufacturing the Future: Prefabrication, Offsite and Hybrid Innovations
Prefabrication, offsite, and hybrid construction are transforming the built environment. Industry leaders will discuss real-world examples highlighting how technological advancements enhance affordability, efficiency, and sustainability.

Technical Workshops

During the Wednesday afternoon we invite attendees to explore the exhibition area and breakout sessions led by sectoral chairs who will deliver thematic workshops in individual rooms on specific industry topics. During these workshops, sectoral chairs will convene an acclaimed list of industry experts to delve into unique aspects of each topic, such as international updates, scientific advancements, and opportunities/challenges. Workshops announced to date include: fire safety, seismic prevention, wildland urban interface-wildfire and protecting our communities. More workshop announcements to come.
